However, Turin does boast an impressive public transport system, should you need to give your feet a rest.

The city's bus, tram or metro network can get you to most places within the centre and to towns further afield. Taxi transport is also on hand in Turin, being well suited to those in a rush and needing to travel relatively short distances.

Situated 16 km / 10 miles north of Turin centre, Caselle International Airport operates both domestic and international flights. It was largely modernised for the 2006 Winter Olympic games, so offers a good range of facilities, To travel from the airport to Turin centre, visitors can choose between a number of popular transport options. A bus service operates from the airport to Turin's two train stations. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes. By train, the trip takes around 20 minutes, with services operating frequently during the day. Alternatively, a taxi takes approximately 30 minutes during busy periods.

By hiring a car, visitors have the flexibility to travel into the area surrounding Turin and further afield. Indeed, Turin is surrounded by a network of motorways, which connect the city to Milan, Genoa, Aosta, Piacenze, Rome and Florence.

If you're intending to travel into Turin centre by car, don't forget to check out in advance where you can park your car. When planning your day, it's worth remembering, too, that some areas of the city are restricted to vehicle access.

Turin's Autostazione Terminal Bus can be found on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. From here, visitors can connect to reliable bus transport, which offers travel to many of Piedmont's towns, including Courmayeur and Aosta. It's also possible to take a bus to Milan from here. City bus transport in Turin operates from 05:00 until 24:00. Tickets are available from selected shops, tobacconists and newsagents. A ticket office can also be found at the bus station itself.

The main train station in Turin is located on Piazza Carlo Felice. Known as Stazione di Porta Nuova, it operates regular services to Milan, Venice, Genoa and Rome. Trains also travel from here to the city's second train station, the Stazione di Porta Susa. This is to be found on Piazza XVIII Dicembre and links Turin with smaller towns in the Piedmont region. The Turin-Paris TGV service also runs from here.

The underground metro system in Turin comprises just one line, the M1, which operates from Collegno to Piazza XVIII Dicembre. Metro transport provides a fast and affordable means of travel, and is therefore popular with locals and tourists alike.

Taxi transport can either be booked in advance, or hailed at taxi ranks located throughout the city centre.
